The Place of Vilavedelle

The final stretch of the course of the Eo River is the natural border between two communities: Asturias and Galicia. Its two sides occupy a sea and land space that was declared UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2007.

Vilavedelle sits on it, on the Asturian shore, within de Nature Reserve Oscos-Eo and Terras de Buron, not far from Taramundi, where rural tourism started in Spain in the 1980’s. Nowadays, that kind of experience is spread throughout the whole Asturian territory.

In the neighbourhood of Vilavedelle you will find Ribadeo, on Galician land, and Vegadeo, Castropol and Figueras on Asturian land; four very different villages looking out at the mouth of the Eo.

Services and trade move the economy of Ribadeo and Vegadeo; engines are the force that moves the shipyard, which conditions the appearance and future of Figueras; the territorial administration inhabits Santiniebla -the ancient Castropol. Each place represents a proposal and they all coexist in the Estuary.
